The day started off a little rough in the 1st qual as I was unable to get in a groove and made a lot of small mistakes and ended P2 for the first round. The 2nd and 3rd rounds were a lot better as I ended up setting a blistering pace in the 2nd qual and TQ for the round. The 3rd qual was the same way and the car was on rails. I ended up bettering my TQ run from the 2nd round which put me on the grid in P1 for the mains. The 12 minute main started off good as I was able to get a good jump on the start. I was out front of the main and running consistent laps with my fellow Tekin and Hobao teammate Jubal Dike running right there with me. Jubal and I were clicking off fast laps and were starting to pull away from the field until he had a bad marshal mishap which dropped him way down and allowed me to pull away from the field and put a big gap between myself and 2nd place. Once I got out to a big lead I was able to put it in cruise for the last 6 minutes of the main and run away with the win and the cash. My Hobao Hyper 9e with Tekin Power and AKA grip was the perfect combination to put me out front and keep me there all day.

Great Job Dave!
This weekend I traveled to Reo Raceway in Rockport, IN to break out the new Hyper 9E Buggy. I put in a basic setup and started from that. I got there early to get in a little practice time and get the car right and ready to do battle. I spent the better part of practice trying new things and changing things up until I finally got the car really close and feeling really good. They prepped the track before the first round of quals so I switched back to a set of SS Enduro's. The 1st round of quals started and I was setting a blistering pace out front pulling away from the field. I ended up setting TQ the 1st round and setting a new track record for the current layout. The 2nd and 3rd rounds went about the same as the 1st. I got out to an early lead in both and just tried to put down consistent laps and learn the car a little better. In the main I went back to my go to tire the AKA SS Enduro. The main started and I got out to an early lead. I started putting in really consistent laps and was steadily pulling away from the field. In the first 10 minutes I already had a 2 lap lead so I just put it in cruise mode. I ended up winning the 15 minute main by a 3 lap margin proving the Hyper 9E will be a car to beat this winter on the tight indoor off road track. My HoBao Hyper 9E equipped with AKA tires and Tekin electronics was dialed all night long. Pretty awesome TQ and Win with first time I ever had the car on the track. Thanks OFNA/Hobao, AKA, and Tekin for making such awesome products.

I am proud to say that preparing for this event all year has paid off. I took home the 2010 RC Pro Electric National Championship as well as TQ'ing the Electric and the Pro Nitro class at this years Finals.
This years finals showed to be one of the most trying as far as setup went. The track became completely blown out by the second day of practice. I felt very confident with both my buggies going into qualifying that I even quit practicing on the last day at 3pm to start prepping for the next day. The track was run wet and I quickly had found that the AKA Enduro's were by far the best tire I had in my arsenal. Mainly due to the high bite, insane bumps, and high speed sections. The City Blocks and I-Beams were too tippy for the conditions and the Gridirons didn't generate enough rear traction for my car. But this was to all be questioned for the first two rounds of qualifying because the track went to dry and they weren't watering. The car was hard to drive to say the least and it would show because this would be the only round I didn't TQ in electric and got 3rd in Pro Nitro. But once the water came back it was time for some better times.
The electric class had 5 people that could ultimately win it so the pressure was on. Luckily I had 8 points over 2nd place qualifier Mitchel Gardner which made it comfortable to go into the mains. This turned out to be a false confidence because I had left my car at the track the night prior to the mains and it got below 40f. For the first main I go out to run my car and right before I finish my first lap the spur lost 6 teeth all next to each other. Gear mesh was perfect and nothing loose so I believe the spur got brittle. And Mitchel won the first main so now it was time to buckle down. 2nd main I take the win and was heavily pressured by AE's Kraig Krueger. After regaining the lead from him though his car shut down at the end of the straight due to a wire that I believe became frayed which gave me a comfortable lead of 12 seconds over Speedster Hobbies owner Chris Allison. In order to win the Final and the overall National Championship I was going to have to beat Mitchel and it started off amazing. About 5 minutes into the main I had a 23 second advantage over Mitchel but then my car just shut off at the end of the front straight. I was about to walk off the stand but decided to try it one last time and sure enough 6 seconds later it started working again. I drove the car 1/4 throttle from that point and at the 8 minute mark it happened again and Mitchel got as close as 4 seconds to me. For the next two minutes I decided it would be smart to actually roll all the way into it on the straights to get more airflow and this proved to get me over the line in first. Turns out the fan on my Tekin speedo had failed and was shorting (bec) just enough when it kicked on at 140f to shut it down.
David used the Tekin Rx8 and T8 Redline 1900kv motor to power his car to victory!
